Homeschooling Music - The Hendersons Bluegrass Gospel Band
When we are not homeschooling, we love to share the Gospel and uplift our Lord through song playing Bluegrass Gospel Music whenever and wherever we can. The above picture was taken by friend, Curt Haralson, at a Gospel Sing we did in Metokoa, WV on June 1, 2013.
Entrepreneurship Ideas - Homeschooling Music - A Little Bit About Matt
Matthew took formal banjo lessons for about 3 years starting when he was 7 1/2 years old. He then switched over to learning at home through videos (Murphy Method). He studied banjo, guitar, mandolin and fiddle using Murphy Henry's videos (she teaches you how to play by ear). Although he can read music, he prefers to play by ear.
In addition to playing instruments, Matthew has built two banjos (one of which he sold), and can also repair banjos. He has helped his dad (Herb) brush up on the guitar and taught me (Carolann, mom) how to play the stand-up acoustic bass.
Together the three of us, as The Hendersons, perform Bluegass Gospel music whenever we can and have recorded two cds. We would welcome the opportunity to play our music at your church's next function, Gospel Sing, Homecoming, Revival, or Church Service. We don't charge a fee, but we will accept a love offering. You may contact us here for more information and/or to schedule us at your next event.
Entrepreneurship Ideas - Homeschooling Music - "Heaven's Light Is Shining On Me"
As a homeschooling family, "Heaven's Light Is Shining On Me" is our first CD. It was recorded in a local studio in Virginia and was quite an adventure and learning experience. I know our sharp learning curve drove the recording engineer a little bit crazy, but he took it in stride and made it fun. Matthew produced the CD, played lead on the instruments (banjo, guitar, mandolin), sang the tenor and some lead, and helped us (mom and dad) do our parts.
The following 12 songs are on the cd: When I Lay My Burdens Down, Heaven's Light Is Shining On Me, A Robin Built A Nest On Daddy's Grave, I'll Answer The Call, Let Me Tell You About Jesus, Down Where The River Bends, The Roses Will Bloom, I'm No Longer An Orphan, One Drop Of Water, Hallelujah I'm Ready, Sweet By And By, This Little Light of Mine.

"I Feel Like Going Home" is our second cd, also produced by Matthew and recorded in the same local studio as our first one. The 12 songs on this cd are: I Feel Like Going Home, I've Just Seen The Rock Of Ages, Take Your Shoes Off Moses, White Dove, Over In The Glory Land, Shamrock, Green Pastures In The Sky, Prayer Bells Of Heaven, Amazing Grace, Salvation Is Through The Lord, Jacob's Vision, Are You Washed In The Blood.

"Salvation Is Through The Lord" is an original song written, sung, and played by Matthew. The fiddle work on this cd was also done by Matthew. We thank the Lord every day for the musical talent and ability He has bestowed upon Matthew, and we give God all the glory.
