Homeschool Curriculum Review - Rosetta Stone
The world today is becoming even more of a melting pot than before. You may encounter people who speak several different languages right within your own state or city. In order to give your homeschooled children a head start in dealing with the world at large, help them learn one of these languages with Rosetta Stone.
Just about everyone has heard of Rosetta Stone. It is the company that offers an easier way to learn and retain a new language. They say that the way we are taught in traditional school doesn’t foster a grasp of the language that is needed for effective communication with someone who is a native speaker. Using a different tactic; Rosetta Stone makes learning fun and successful for anyone from children to adults.
Rosetta Stone offers a complete homeschooling curriculum for parents looking to widen their children’s horizons and also to bring effective language learning to them. Students are given a firm foundation in whatever language they choose that can help them create a more compelling high school transcript. Some have described Rosetta Stone’s approach as the next best thing to being left alone in a foreign country to your own devices.
Homeschool Curriculum Review - Rosetta Stone - What is Offered
With the Rosetta Stone homeschooling curriculum, parents and students can choose from 25 languages available that includes the familiar French and Spanish but also more difficult to understand languages like Dutch, Greek, Chinese and Russian. The programs for each individual language will differ.
No matter what language you
choose, the program is self-directed – students learn at their pace. Parents
don’t have to be experts in the language in order to keep them on task or to
monitor their progress. There are parental administration tools that let you
evaluate your child’s abilities, see how long it takes them to complete a unit
and generate various reports that are helpful for college applications.
Their program is designed to teach kids to learn a language naturally, like they learned their first one. Students are completely immersed in the material. Unlike many traditional classes there is no translation from the foreign language to English or vice versa. Using images, words and voices of native speakers, kids learn to comprehend and speak the language.
Students develop the ability to “think” in the foreign language to create off-script responses to questions like they would if they were conversing with a native speaker. Rosetta Stone has an exclusive “Adaptive Recall” feature to help kids shunt what they’ve learned from short term to long term memory storage so they can use their new language easily long after lessons have concluded.
Depending on the language
program that you want to purchase, there are payment plan options for
homeschooling parents. Where available, the best option is always to purchase
the entire curriculum with the Audio Companion.
